Godalming & Farncombe Athletic Reserves 3

Nat Sharp (2)
Steven Hamilton (1)

Hot on the heels of last weeks win, Godalming went into the last game of the season against a bottom of the table Hammer side expecting to add another 3 points to the somewhat meagre tally to date.

Starting off brightly, Godalming contrived to waste early chances that would have settled the team down. Willis blazed over from close range, Sharp went close when nicely placed and other opportunities went begging.

With Godalming well on top they finally took the lead midway through the first half when Sharp slotted the ball home. The score remained the same into the second half when a mistake by the Hammer keeper allowed an easy tap in for Hamilton. A second Nat Sharp effort a couple of minutes later made the game same and Godalming played out the last 20 minutes of the season knocking the ball around confidently and creating other chances.
Despite this comfortable scoreline, the Godalming defence was not at it’s best and Hammer went close on a couple of occasions forcing good saves from Dave Cheeseman standing in from the first team and showing his undoubted qualities.

And so the season drew to a close on the back of two wins. Third from bottom yet not dismayed. The squad remained keen and well spirited all season. Next year will hopefully be different. With some new players already signed up by the 1st team there should be a natural filtering down to the reserves and consequent strengthening. The future is bright. The future is Yellow !
